Budget time…. ugh!

July 21, 2010

So for those of you that know me I’m not a fan of the “B” word. As a matter of fact I try just about anything to avoid it. However, the time has come for me to face my “B” word fears and create a ….. BUDGET plan! My hubby and I are wanting to buy a house. For the last few years we’ve been unsettled as to where we wanted to live so the house buying was put off. However, we have now gotten quite comfortable here in the great white north and are wanting to call it home. 🙂 That being said…. we havn’t really though of a house budget until now. Up until this point things like just going to Cuba, or Disneyland or heading on a road trip were just spur of the moment let’s do it kind of things… now that we need a down payment those “just do it” things need to be a little better planned out. So we decided it’s time to enforce a budget, and that’s what we’re going to TRY to do. Cut costs where they’re not needed, make things like clothes and shoes last longer (more so for the kiddos), cut back… WAY back, on groceries and start meal planning and really focus on savings. We’re in the clear as far as debt, so if we can lasso our spending habbits and stick to a plan the goal of a house should be easily done in a matter of 2 years.

So, now that you’re bored to death of my ramblings. If you’d like to join me on this journey, I can’t promise I’ll post everyday, or every second day. I am a very busy photographer, and a mom and housewife still, so the blogging will come as it comes. But, if you’d like to watch me struggle through this then please feel free to. 🙂

For starters this week I’ll be planning out the budget, seeing where I can use some of my girls clothes that are warn out and revive them, plan some meal plans and a better grocery budget and start some serious savings accounts, like a tax free savings account. So off I go to get a start… chow!

Hair cuts and Hats

February 17, 2010

Ok, I promise to never make promises again that I can not keep… including promises to post because we all know that it might not happen! :O)

So as promised a while ago I said I’d post photos of hats I made… well, I didn’t, but I did put them on facebook so you can see them here… HATS

However I will post photos of my baby girls new haircuts! So cute! I took my girls to a salon for the first time ever yesterday and they came out like this… first up… Phoebe… they took nearly 10 inches off her hair!!!!!!!!!! And I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! and so does she! :O)

Maybe I should have taken the photos BEFORE they went to play and put their pjs on… oh well. it still looks cute :O) and the dye is temporary :O)

Next up… Madde… They only took 3 1/2 inches off but if you had seen her right before it is a HUGE difference too! Her hair was SO damaged and looked really blah, now it’s super cute and has some layers :O) LOVE IT!

So there you have it… aren’t they purdy :O)

This afternoon my sister gave me a call and had a GREAT idea. She wants us to challenge each other in our scrapbooking so we can get back into it. We are going to a scrappy retreat in May together again and we would both like to be more prepared than we are now… probably me more so than her, considering that she is a CTMH consultant she still does some, I have hardly touched my stuff in a LONG time, but it’s partly because I took on sewing and crocheting and my photography career, and life happens… :O) So I’m really looking forward to getting back into it again… you’ll be able to see some of my progress here too I’m sure.

Anyhow, that’s it for now… I’m off to watch some more of the Olympics! YAY, GO CANADA!!!! :O) ttfn!

Shoot! I did it again!

January 23, 2010

I totally ignored my “personal” blog! Dang it! Sorry about that. It’s not that I don’t WANT to update my blog, it’s just that I keep forgetting to. It’s actually a known fact with everyone that know’s me that I have the WORST memory ever! I actually started taking a vitamin for this little problem, but when I ran out I threw out the bottle and forgot what they were called! They obviously weren’t working. 🙂

On a different note. I’ve kept crazy busy here and loving it! I never thought I’d say this but I LOVE it here! I’ve made some great friends already, and acquaintances. My Photography business is BOOMING to say the least which is fantastic! I absolutely LOVE my job. Really though, who wouldn’t love photographing beautiful mommies to be and their sweet new babies for a living?!

My prop collection is starting to take over my “dining room”. So much so that I decided to regroup and organize. While doing so I started adding up the costs of everything I’ve bought… and wholly molly… there’s a lot. We wont put a number on here for fear of my husband actually deciding to master the web and read this, so lets just leave it at “a lot”. Anyhow, after some major brain storming I decided that I don’t have nearly enough props yet, and I don’t want to spend “all” my income on props, soooo. I self taught myself to crochet! Yeppers, I have spent the last 3 days sitting in bed like a little ol’ granny, working the yarn, and you know what? I’m actually pretty good if I do say so myself! I’ve made 2 beanies for my girls cabbage patch dolls (those were the practice ones). I also just finished the most adorable little premie sized pink top hat yesterday for those itty bitty beautiful baby girls, and now as we speak I’m making my very first “elf” hat. It’s turning out soooo cute! ideally I’d like to show it off on the top of a beautiful little baby head but unfortunately my next baby is not due until Feb 12th and I’m not sure the maternity models I have coming up would want to squeeze into a tiny elf hat. So as soon as it’s done I’ll be sure to get a photo of my projects to share on here. I’m not so sure I NEEDED another hobby to add to my life, but I must say it has been very therapeutic. Crocheting is very relaxing once you get the hang of it. 🙂

Onto other things. The girls are still doing awesome at school. They are growing up so fast! Madde was so excited the other day because for the first time ever she made her own lunch, including her pb and j sandwich! And Phoebe was equally excited that she poured her own cereal complete with milk! I officially feel less and less needed everyday. 😦 Although I must say I’ve very proud of both of them.

We’ve got a birthday party to go to today. One of the friends I’ve made has a little boy that just turned 1, that should be lots of fun. And tomorrow we’re going to hit up a Pet Expo here in the city. I was really shocked when Darren suggested going because I think he’s been trying to avoid pet talk since we had to put Abby down last March. I must say though, I think we all miss having a furry four legged friend in the house. I’m not saying we’re going to get one, I’m just saying it would be nice.

Anyhow, that’s about all that’s happening here. So off I go to finish my hat, I’ll try to get a picture of it on here by Monday. Chow for now!

Hello to you all!

December 2, 2009

Well hi there! I’m so glad you managed to find my new blog. You may be asking yourself WHY would I get a new blog, and I’ll tell you. Basically for the last 13+ months I was paying for my blog to be hosted at typepad. I added it up and I had spent well over $100 for my family blog in just one year! Crazy considering that I forgot quite often to even update it… soooo I have recently revamped my photography website, http://freezingtimephotography.com and in doing so I decided that I wanted to host with wordpress because of their simplicity and their AWSEOME theme options! The one I’m using over there in particular is by tofurious over at www.tofurious.com . SO, anyhow, when I moved my hosting for my website I figured I might as well move my blog too and save myself some $$$. The nice thing about a wordpress blog is that it’s FREE!! and totally awesome and easy to work with.

SO, welcome, to my new FREE home on the web. The next thing I have to do is remember to update it lol!

Onto regular stuff…. Incase you’re wondering….

Madison and Phoebe are doing awesome in school here! They both got straight A’s on their report cards, and have made a ton of friends! They’ll be performing in their Christmas concerts on the 15th, I’m totally looking forward to that and plan on video taping it so perhaps I’ll be able to share that on here.

Darren’s adjusting well to his new job. It’s a big change and a HUGE shop so it’s taking some getting used to but so far so good for the most part. He’s finding things to do finally too. Actually as I type this he is out at a bluegrass jam. I’m so happy for him that there is something here for him that he enjoys and that he can meet other people with the same interests.

I’m LOVING it here! My photography business has picked up and is going well. I’ve averaged 1 shoot a week, which is great for now. I’ve made some friends, joined Spa Lady, found a quilting store here that has classes I intend on joining and much more. It’s been a big adjustment for all of us moving from a small town of 6000 people to a city of more than 1,000,000 people but I think that it’s a good adjustment. 🙂

I took Madison and Phoebe to the Santa Clause parade in Fort Saskatchewan on Saturday with some friends. It was short and sweet but nice too. They got some candy, met a new friend and had a great time. I did have a bunch of pictures of it, but some photographer I am, I accidently erased my memory card before I uploaded the photos on my computer!! UGH! Well at least we’ve got the memories. 🙂

I’ve got the house all decorated for Christmas. For the first time ever I let the girls decorate the tree all on their own (other than the lights and garland). I think they did an awesome job of it, and I plan on taking photos of the decorations and the tree in the next couple days so check back and I’ll share them on here soon. I’m very excited that this year my mother and father in law and Darren’s brother Kevin will be coming here to spend Christmas with us. I absolutely love having lots of family around during the holidays.

Well, I think that’s about it for today. If you actually made it to the end of this post then thanks for reading my blabber. 🙂 Chow for now!
